About Environment Agency – Abu Dhabi (EAD)

Established in 1996, the Environment Agency – Abu Dhabi (EAD) is committed to protecting and enhancing air quality, groundwater as well as the biodiversity of our desert and marine ecosystem. By partnering with other government entities, the private sector, NGOs and global environmental agencies, we embrace international best practice, innovation and hard work to institute effective policy measures. We seek to raise environmental awareness, facilitate sustainable development and ensure environmental issues remain one of the top priorities of our national agenda.

About Abu Dhabi Mangrove Initiative (ADMI)

Abu Dhabi Mangrove Initiative (ADMI) was launched in 2022 in partnership between Environment Agency - Abu Dhabi (EAD) and the Zoological Society of London during the visit of Prince William with H.H. Sheikh Khaled bin Mohamed bin Zayed Al Nahyan in support of the goal of reaching net zero. The first of its kind in the region, the Initiative is pioneering mangrove conservation excellence through state-of-the-art research and restoration. Its work includes:

  • Developing innovative solutions for mangrove restoration.
  • Establishing an advanced nursery for mangroves and a centre for research and studies.
  • Unifying the Emirate's efforts in the field of mangroves.
  • Encouraging community members to participate in preserving the environment.
  • Contributing to mitigating the effects of climate change.
  • Attracting partnerships with local and international bodies and the private sector.

About Our Strategic Partners

The conference is being organised in partnership with the United Nations Decade on Ecosystem Restoration, the United Nations Environment Programme, the Global Mangrove Alliance, the University of St. Andrews, the IUCN Mangrove Specialist Group, the Zoological Society of London, Wetlands International and Emirates-Nature-WWF.

These partners have supported the planning of the scientific program of the conference, having served as members of the planning committee since November 2023.
